Masam is a small independent bottling company in Italy and is run by Maryse Accorsi, the wife of the legendary importer and bottler, Silvano Samaroli. The pair started the company in 2016 in order to bottle casks from Samaroli's personal collection, however Silvano sadly passed away the following year. The business was continued by Accorsi, however, and was was renamed Masam (a contraction of Maryse Samaroli) in 2018.
The company bottles single cask whiskies under the Silvano's Collection brand name, and releases are often individually named in tribute to the practice employed by Samaroli's first company. Its portfolio also includes the No Age brand, a collection of blended malt and blended Scotch bottlings first produced in 1992.
It is a harmonious blend of malt whiskies , produced exclusively by Scotland's last remaining artisanal distilleries and aged for 12 to over 49 years in special sherry casks and oak barrels. It is the only malt to undergo the original alcohol reduction process over a full 12 months, as was customary in the 19th century. The product is not subjected to the shock of a sudden, violent addition of water before bottling. Every two to three months, the batches are reassembled. A small percentage of water is added so that it can be fully absorbed by the whisky's various organoleptic components. This practice has now been largely abandoned because it is too expensive. Furthermore, it is not subjected to artificial coloring or chill filtration, which could remove its original components and natural aromas.
No-Âge is highly evocative with its exclusive bottle, a faithful reproduction of a 19th-century whisky container, housed in a single case. It is produced in strictly limited quantities. Each cuvée is labeled with the total production and the serial number of each bottle.
