Seto Ware Matcha Tea Bowl “Bridge” by Mizuno Sōkaku – With Signed Wooden Box & Certificate

Description

This matcha tea bowl titled “Bridge” was created by Mizuno Sōkaku, a Nitten-exhibited ceramic artist from Seto.

The bowl features a calm grayish-green glaze with a three-dimensional landscape motif centered around a bridge. Delicate relief decorations suggest plum blossoms and bamboo, creating a tranquil composition that evokes the beauty of the Japanese seasons.

The body is richly sculpted, while natural glaze flow, iron spotting, and kiln effects produce a unique surface full of depth and character. The warm clay texture and soft glaze tones reflect the refined aesthetic of Seto ware.

Mizuno Sōkaku is an accomplished ceramic artist who has been selected for the Nitten exhibition numerous times and has received awards at the National Ceramic Exhibition, Kansai Art Exhibition, Asahi Ceramic Exhibition, and other prestigious competitions. According to the accompanying certificate, his works are preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Ceramics Museum in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The artist’s signature is impressed near the foot, and the tea bowl comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and certificate. It is an excellent piece for both tea ceremony use and Japanese ceramic collections.
