Oppler, den tyske impresjonistiske maleren, var en av de viktigste kronikørene av scenedans og borgerlig liv i mellomkrigstiden. Han var også en av sin tids fremste grafiske kunstnere. Hans bruk av fine linjer, mestring av etsning og drypoint tillot ham å gi sine svart-hvite komposisjoner en dyp følelse av intimitet, eleganse og virtuositet.
