The 12-year-old is part of The Balvenie 1931 Collection—a range with roots reaching deep into the distillery's history. In 1931, Balvenie commissioned its own new malting floor. That same year also saw the origin of the legendary Cask No. 239—a European sherry cask from Jerez containing whisky that matured for an incredible 88 years and now forms the heart of the 1931 Collection. Only 17 bottles of this historic whisky exist.
A tribute to 1931—and to a style of whisky making that feels almost timeless, belonging to a bygone era.

Aroma: Initially fresh-baked butter cookies and warm malt, overlaid with the honey sweetness so characteristic of Balvenie. Creamy toffee and a hint of vanilla follow, before notes of candied orange peel, delicate ginger, and increasingly aromatic oak emerge. Hints of raisins and a subtle sherry spice appear in the background.

Taste: Soft and remarkably full-bodied. Sweet barley sugar and liquid honey kick things off, followed by toffee, raisins, and candied ginger. The sherry casks introduce dried fruits and a pleasantly darker sweetness, while spicy European oak gives the whisky structure. The 47,5 % ABV provides warmth and intensity without overpowering Balvenie’s elegant style.

Finish: Velvety, warm, and pleasantly long. Honey and barley malt linger, accompanied by raisins, a delicate ginger spiciness, and oak spice that becomes drier. A final touch of toffee and sweet malt rounds it off.
