This rare vintage Kokeshi, crafted by the renowned Shozan Shido, showcases minimalistic artistry, maximizing the use of natural wood. The doll adorns a mino, a traditional garment worn by farmers in mountainous regions for protection against rain and snow. The title of this Kokeshi is also 'Michinoku みちのく,' which refers to the Tohoku region in Japan. artist: Shido Shozan 志藤尚山 (1932-1996) was born in Oita prefecture, the southern region of Japan, in 1932. In 1959, he moved to Yonezawa City in the Tohoku region of Japan, known as the hometown of traditional Japanese Kokeshi dolls. There, he presented Kokeshi works employing unique techniques and new materials, earning numerous awards.
