Fine and atmospheric circular landscape etching by Gabriel Perelle, royal engraver to Louis XIV and one of the most sought-after French landscape printmakers of the 17th century.

This elegant composition presents a lively coastal scene animated by numerous figures. On the left, sailors prepare a vessel along the shore, while in the foreground travellers and workers gather along a path leading toward a fortified town. A tall stone tower dominates the right side of the scene, creating a striking vertical contrast within the circular format. In the distance, mountainous cliffs and calm waters extend toward the horizon under a richly textured sky.

The delicate linear work, careful rendering of architectural details, and refined treatment of light and atmosphere are characteristic of Perelle’s distinctive Baroque landscape style.

Signed in the plate “Mariette ex.” (publisher Pierre Mariette, Paris) and “Perelle f.”, confirming both publisher and engraver. Numbered “15” in the upper right corner, indicating that the print belongs to a numbered series.
