Emilio Greco was an Italian sculptor and painter born in Catania, Sicily. He learned funerary sculpture and the restoration of ancient sculptures under a stonemason from the age of 13, and later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. He established an international reputation by winning the Grand Prize for Sculpture at the 1956 Venice Biennale.
