My name is Joseph Hopkins A.k.A POH. Born in Seattle , Washington now based in Madrid. I started painting after going to the famous ARCO art fair in Madrid. I see painting as a very potent way to have a voice and to make a change in this world. My works all focus on the figure, it is my belief that the figure is the most understandable thing one cant paint. If you are looking at a painting you are a being , a figure. My goal is to push painting with my subject matter, and I view painting in today’s day and age as a tool to make a statement. My statement is ever-changing but my core is not. My core belief is that we must show reality regardless of the morals and regardless of the very subjective ideas of good and bad. Good and bad which I believe serve no purpose in todays large-scale societies that function more mechanically than humanly. In order to move forward as a race, we have to address what is, before we address what will be. As a man in the 21st century I feel it my duty to paint things as they are now objectively, with hopes of an amazing future to come.
