TAG Heuer Auto-Rallye chronometer, circa 1960

In the 1950s Heuer introduced the Auto-Rallye, dashboard 60 minutes chronograph, evolution of the 1958 Rally-Master. It was an unprecedented success: in 1959 Jack Heuer himself noticed that over two thirds of the cars racing the Monte Carlo Rally were equipped with a TAG Heuer chronometer. Sturdy and reliable, it became a benchmark for its precision on the dashboard and is widely acknowledged as one of the easiest to read chronometers in the history of watch-making. Thanks to an extensive archive research TAG Heuer's Timing Department identified the original drawings of the two movements and of the 1958 Rally Master's components. It was not easy to track down this Heuer Master-Time, a lever-stop calibre 28 balance-wheel watch movement. Working closely with Eric and Dora Montandon of the Swiss firm Montadon & Cie (husband and wife in charge of the team responsible for the designing, bulding and assembly of the original movement) the Timing Department engineers of TAG Heuer have managed to create a new version that is true to the original, equipped with the Heuer Auto-Rally stopwatch, a complicated movement based on the Heuer Calibre 7780, with single 0-12 hours timer at 6 o'clock and a start-stop system fitted in the crown, with the adjacent oversized push button providing the reset function. The item on offer is like new, complete with mounting bracket to fix it to the dashboard; dimensions: diameter 58 mm, thickness 28 mm, weight approx. 100 g. Tracked and insured shipping.
