1969. The Rolling Stones are about to tour Europe. The band is still looking for a design for the new tour poster. Their record company Deca shows a few works of art, but Jagger is not impressed. He decides to ask the Royal College of Art in London if they might know a suitable student who can help them out. (Photo credits: The Rolling Stones)
There Jagger meets the student John Pasche. Pasche is commissioned to design the new tour poster. Fun fact: a fellow student from Pasche, Storm Thorgerson, then worked for another major British rock band. He designed Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon.
Jagger was so enthusiastic about Pasche's work that he immediately asked if the artist could also design the new logo for their new album. For inspiration, Mick Jagger Pasche gave a picture of the Hindu Goddess Kali, who is known for her long and pointed tongue. Mick "thought it looked cool". Pasche wanted to design something that also suited The Stones and that was against the authority and provocative. He finally put "Tongue and Lips" on paper. Jagger was immediately sold and Pasche paid no less than £ 50. The logo appeared on the cover of the LP of the album Sticky Fingers.
Painted by the dutch painter Vincent Mink, signed on the front left and edge, and back side.
