A single folio page from a 16th Century Safaivid Persian Koran, with continuous text of 12 lines and as Juz marginal indicating 5th or 10th verse with commentary beneath. The script, in black Nastaliq, has 5 aya verse indicators in gold divided into 4 parts. There are multiple diacritical (devotional markings) in red within the script. Possibly from Surat 2 Al-Baqarah, where Marut is mentioned, Marut (and Harut) being said to tempt humans by teaching them the arts of sorcery (siḥr) in Babylon.
