Miles Davis & Lee Konitz - Teddy Charles & Jimmy Raney – Ezz-thetic / The Coll-Jazz Legend - LP - Mono, Reedição - 1976

Lee Konitz & Miles Davis / Teddy Charles & Jimmy Raney – Ezz-thetic - is a major jazz album featuring saxophonist Lee Konitz and trumpeter Miles Davis, as well as vibraphonist Teddy Charles and guitarist Jimmy Raney. Originally released in 1951, this album is notable for its innovative approach to improvisation and composition, as well as its association with the influential record label Prestige Records. Lee Konitz and Miles Davis were both key figures in the development of cool jazz and modal jazz in the 1950s. Konitz's gentle alto saxophone style and Davis' lyrical trumpet playing had a major influence on the jazz scene of the time. Teddy Charles, known for his work on the vibraphone, was also an important figure in the cool jazz movement, while guitarist Jimmy Raney was known for his bebop-influenced playing style. “Ezz-thetic” features a mix of original compositions and jazz standards, all approached with a fresh and innovative sensibility. The title track, “Ezz-thetic,” is a composition by pianist George Russell, known for his pioneering work in modal jazz. The album also contains interpretations of melodies by Thelonious Monk and George Gershwin, among others. The interplay between Konitz, Davis, Charles and Raney is a highlight of the album, with each musician bringing their unique voice to the music while simultaneously listening and responding to each other in real-time improvisation. The result is a series of captivating and dynamic performances that showcase the creativity and virtuosity of these four jazz greats. "Ezz-thetic" remains a popular recording among jazz fans and is a testament to the enduring legacy of Lee Konitz, Miles Davis, Teddy Charles and Jimmy Raney, as well as the innovative spirit of the 1950s cool jazz movement.
