Spain, 1773, Spanish Inquisition. Handwritten and signed will of the Inquisitor General of Spain, His Excellency Don Juan de Camargo Angulo. He was a member of the Council of the Kingdom of His Majesty, Bishop of Pamplona, ​​Inquisitor General of Spain and Commissioner General of the Crusade. 20 pages, size, 31.5x21.8 cm. Noble notarial signatures. Dated in Madrid on September 18, 1733. Attention, the upper part of the second sheet has been cut off, otherwise, good condition with normal signs of age, see photos. Juan de Camargo Angulo was born in the town of Ágreda, Soria in 1663 and died in Madrid in 1733. He was a Spanish ecclesiastic and statesman from a noble family. Son of José Antonio Camargo y Pasquier, first count and lord of the town of Villarrea and other lordships in Castile and France, and María Teresa de Angulo y Rada. He studied at the Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé in Salamanca. In 1688 he graduated in Law and other courses. He was named canon and in the cathedral of Burgos. In 1699 he was appointed prosecutor of the Inquisition of Granada until 1708, when he was appointed inquisitor of the Spanish Court. Felipe V grants him the position of prosecutor of the Supreme Council of the kingdom. In 1716, the king promoted him to bishop of Pamplona and consecrated in 1716 by Francesco del Giudice, cardinal, inquisitor general and viceroy of Sicily. In 1720, the king appointed him Inquisitor General of the Spanish Empire with the bull of Pope Clement XI. Shortly afterwards he was also appointed General Commissioner of the Crusade. In 1724, Philip V chose Camargo to be part of the Council of State that was to advise his son Luis I, whom he had just abdicated. An interesting historical document.
