Edwin John Chappell 手杖 - .925 银 - 伦敦 1884
An elegant Victorian walking stick dating to 1884, fitted with a finely engraved solid silver handle by Edwin John Chappell, and fully hallmarked for London. The domed silver pommel and collar are decorated with flowing foliate engraving of very good quality, reflecting the refined craftsmanship of late nineteenth-century English silverwork. The hallmarks are clear and well struck, confirming the date, place of assay, and maker.
The walking stick is fitted with a dark polished wooden shaft, attractively shaped with a natural undulating, root-like contour that gives the piece both character and a pleasing balance in the hand. It retains its original ferrule, showing only light, honest wear consistent with age and use.
With a length of 91 cm, this is a well-proportioned gentleman’s walking stick from the late Victorian period, combining the assurance of a named London silversmith with an appealing and slightly unusual shaft form. It is a refined and decorative object, suitable for collectors of Victorian silver, antique walking sticks, or period accessories.
The walking stick is in very good antique condition. The silver shows gentle surface wear and a few small dents consistent with age. The shaft is straight and sound, with minor surface marks, and the original ferrule remains intact. No breaks, splits, or visible repairs are observed.
