Large Japanese ranma, a decorative wooden transom panel from Japan, carved from solid keyaki (Japanese zelkova) wood.
The panel features an openwork carving of the traditional pine, bamboo and plum motif, which symbolizes longevity, resilience and prosperity in Japanese culture. This piece is estimated to date from the Showa period (circa 1926–1989).
It is a single large panel. The reverse side is designed to accommodate two shoji panels【障子】which are included with this lot. The shoji panels are covered with washi (traditional Japanese paper).
Condition:
The ranma is in fair condition and shows clear signs of age and long-term use. There are visible cracks and splits in the wood, as well as surface wear and minor losses. The shoji panels also show age-related wear. Please carefully review all photos for details of the condition.
