Minagawa Taizō 皆川 泰蔵 (1917–2005) was a distinguished Japanese textile artist and printmaker, celebrated for his innovative fusion of traditional techniques and modern aesthetics.
Born in Kyoto, graduated from the Kyoto City School of Arts and Crafts, where he specialized in textile design. His early exposure to Kyoto’s rich artistic heritage profoundly influenced his creative trajectory.
While primarily recognized for his mastery in dyeing and weaving, Minagawa also made significant contributions to the art of woodblock printing. His prints are characterized by bold compositions, vibrant colors, and a distinctive use of geometric forms, reflecting his background in textile design.
Throughout his career, Minagawa was an active participant in Japan’s art community. He regularly exhibited with the Nitten Association, receiving numerous accolades for his work. In recognition of his contributions to Japanese art, he was awarded the Order of the Chrysanthemum by the Ministry of Education and, he received the 4th class of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, honoring his distinguished achievements in the arts.
