Both scrolls come with their signed kiri storage boxes. The first scroll depicts Mt Fuji, a hawk perched on a pine branch, and eggplants, painted by Ozaki Shunshū. This motif is associated with the long-standing Japanese proverb “Ichifuji, Nitaka, San nasubi,” meaning “First Mt Fuji, second a hawk, third an eggplant.” Seeing these in one’s first dream of the year is believed to bring good fortune. Mt Fuji symbolises auspicious beginnings and longevity, the hawk represents nobility and ambition, and the eggplant is associated with prosperity and achievements. Ozaki Shunshū, born in 1944 in Aichi Prefecture, is known for his bird-and-flower paintings and traditional Japanese landscapes. The second scroll, by Fukaya, shows a pair of carp—one black and one red—swimming upward against a flowing waterfall with a pine tree above. In Japanese symbolism, carp represent perseverance, strength, and the ability to overcome adversity, as they are believed to swim upstream with powerful determination. The pine signifies longevity and resilience. Together, this composition expresses success, vitality, and enduring good fortune. Both works are painted on silk, fully handpainted, signed, and sealed by the artists, with wooden roller ends and signed wooden boxes. Minor blemishes are present, but overall the scrolls remain in good to very good used condition. Please refer to the photos for details. Overall Dimensions of Mt Fuji Scroll: approx. H 186.5 cm W 58.5 cm Overall Dimensions of Koi Scroll: approx. H 178 cm W 58.7 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
