Rim hot-shaped into four soft lobes, a finish Daum used on small luxury coupes and vide-poches in the first decade of the 1900s. After the Paris Exposition of 1900, Daum promoted color-mottled wares with precious inclusions as prestige pieces. The gold leaf is trapped between layers through multiple firings, then the lip is worked hot. Polylobed bowls of this type appear in Daum catalogues circa 1906 to 1910 and were retailed through the firm’s Paris outlets.
