盒子 - 瓷 - Four Fruits 盖盒
Large Chinese Polychrome Enameled 'Four Fruits' Lidded Box – Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.
An impressive and deeply molded Chinese porcelain lidded box, realistically modeled in the form of four auspicious fruits (likely representing the "Four Abundances"). The exterior is decorated in vibrant famille rose/polychrome enamels, featuring a rich palette of pink, lime green, and yellow.
The lid is intricately detailed with raised relief branches, broad green leaves with black veining, and a stippled pomegranate section. The interior is finished with a striking turquoise wash and is functionally divided into four quadrants, mirroring the exterior form. The box sits on four integrated organic-form feet.
Symbolism: In Chinese culture, fruit groupings often carry deep meaning. This combination typically represents a wish for longevity, many sons, and good fortune.
Condition :
Overall: Good to Very Good antique condition.
Enamel: Minor expected enamel loss consistent with age, primarily on the high-relief branches and leaf edges.
Structure: A few superficial minor chips observed at the inner rims and edges. No major cracks or restorations visible.
Length: 24 cm
Width: 22 cm
Height: 11.5 cm
The scale of this piece is particularly noteworthy. At 24 cm in length, it is significantly larger than standard sweetmeat or ginger boxes of the period. The combination of the divided turquoise interior and the high-relief "molded fruit" exterior makes it a highly decorative crossover piece for collectors of both Chinese Works of Art and botanical-themed ceramics.
