The artwork, rendered in the Nanga (Southern School) style, depicts scenes of ancient Chinese life, featuring elegant landscapes and finely detailed figures. The presence of a celestial maiden suggests a possible connection to mythology. Delicate gold leaf accents are scattered throughout the background, adding a luminous effect to the composition. Odagiri Kanshoken (1689–1774), originally named Yasō, studied painting from a young age under Mekata Unsen Moriyasu (目賀多守息). He later became an attendant to the fifth daimyo of Yonezawa, Uesugi Tsunanori (上杉綱憲), but was ordered into seclusion for 14 years due to an undisclosed incident. During this period, he refined his artistic skills, excelling in meticulous depictions of birds, flowers, and landscapes. He was also renowned as a master garden designer, responsible for the creation of Sanka-kan gardens. Kanshoken eventually took on disciples, including Kosaka Shoshu (香坂松洲) and Sakonji Koreharu (左近司惟春). The artwork shows signs of age, with wear, discoloration, stains, and several tears visible on the surface. There are traces of insect damage, and the wooden frame has small chips in certain areas.
