This mini chest attracted attention at the time for its clever design, as it can transform into a small work table when opened. It was manufactured by Saitama Sewing Machine Co. (now defunct). The lower compartment of the chest was originally designed to store a small sewing machine. It was marketed as a “compact, home-use sewing machine with a dedicated storage chest.” Please note: the mini sewing machine is NOT included in this lot. The chest features a traditional Japanese wadansu (Japanese chest)–inspired design, crafted from wood with a beautiful natural grain. It is accented with black metal hardware, including corner fittings, drawer pulls, and decorative lock plates. Combining both practical functionality and decorative appeal, this piece embodies the charm of Shōwa-era retro design. Today, whether with or without the original sewing machine, examples like this are becoming increasingly scarce and are regarded as collector’s items.
