两个日本木偶——获奖艺术品和传统下吕温泉纪念品 - 木 - 日本 - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

Item Description This lot consists of two Japanese kokeshi dolls with contrasting backgrounds: one traditional souvenir piece and one highly regarded artist-made work. The first doll (left) is a souvenir kokeshi from Gero Onsen, one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resorts. The maker is unknown, which is typical for regional souvenir kokeshi. The figure features a gently tilted head with closed eyes, creating a calm and tender expression. Floral motifs are painted on the body, and the overall form suggests a quiet, resting pose. The simple construction and warm wood tones give this piece a charming folk-art character. The second doll (right) is an artist work titled “Dancing Figure.” It was created by Kishi Sadao, a highly acclaimed kokeshi artist who received the Prime Minister’s Award three times. The doll has a graceful, upright posture and is distinguished by a circular decorative element held at the side, enhancing the sense of movement suggested by the title. Delicate floral patterns and a softly modeled face reflect the refined craftsmanship of the artist. The artist’s mark is clearly stamped on the base. Both dolls show signs of age and use, such as surface scratches, small paint losses, and natural wear to the wood, all consistent with traditional wooden kokeshi. There are no major cracks or repairs observed. Overall condition is appropriate for their age and use. Artist Kishi Sadao Kishi Sadao was born in 1932 in Gunma Prefecture. He was a leading figure in modern creative kokeshi and received numerous major awards throughout his career. His achievements include multiple Prime Minister’s Awards at regional and national kokeshi competitions, as well as participation in important cultural offerings such as the Meiji Shrine dedication ceremony. His works are known for their sense of movement, balance, and dignified expression. He passed away in 1998.
