An excellent Vintage and one of the last bottles I have. Rare millennial Port.

Jamie Goode: Wonderful nose: fantastic, dark, focused sweet blackberry fruit is multilayered and complex with some olive notes. The palate is superconcentrated with dense, pure, really sweet blackberry fruit. Amazing intensity and depth here. Still just an infant. Brilliant effort.
Robert Parker: The 2000 Quinta Do Noval Vintage 96 is much stricter on the nose compared to the 1997 with very pure blackberry, boysenberry and blueberry fruit mixed with cigar box and flinty scents. It does not quite have the presence of the 1997 but it has focus and breeding and, wow, leave it aside for several minutes and it repays you with intoxicating candied orange peel scents. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and sensual on the entry with mint, orange peel, fig skin and white pepper. This is a sensational millennial Noval with the temerity to surpass the Nacional. Drink 2015-2040.
Winemaking:
Vintage Ports are declared only in great years (3 or 4 years in a decade) and only when the wines come up to Noval’s exacting standards. All the grapes come from the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation macerate to obtain the best possible extraction in the lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta. It is matured for 18 months in wooden vats of various capacities.
Tasting Notes:
Purple/black in colour, it is incredibly pure and concentrated with good depth. The palate is intense beyond belief with very sweet blackberries and on the nose you will find cassis, chocolate, liquorice and spice. The tannins are sweet with the wine filling the mouth on entrance and the finish is long. This port is ready to drink and will continue to be over the next thirty years.
Store and Serve Advices:
Serve at cellar temperature (15/17°). Decantation is recommended to separate the sediment. This cellar wine will mature over the years and develop a complex variety of aromas. You can also enjoy it when young to taste the intensity of its fruit. It is best drunk 4 to 40 years after bottling. Drink within 48 hours after openning.
Food Pairing:
Particularly enjoyable with a dessert, with dark chocolate or cheese. Also on its own at the end of a meal.
