A very large and impressive stoneware charger decorated with hardy begonias 秋海棠 (shûkaidô). The broad surface is covered with a striking glazed design of overlapping begonia leaves, predominantly in deep black accented with veins of silver and gold, alternating with a few leaves entirely rendered in shimmering gold or silver tones. The composition is delicately highlighted by several sprays of small white blossoms. The underside is signed by the artist. Complete with its original signed and sealed wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box) inscribed in ink.
