The Order of the Red Star is a Soviet state award established in 1930. It consists of a silver five-pointed star with red enamel, at the center of which is a shield bearing the figure of a Red Army soldier, a hammer and sickle, and around the rim are the inscriptions "Workers of the World, Unite!" and "USSR." It was awarded for meritorious service in the defense of the USSR in both wartime and peacetime, for courage and bravery displayed in battle, and for successes in strengthening the country's defenses.
