A cigerrette case in sterling silver by silversmith George Unite - Birmingham 1860 A lovely example of a victorian sterling silver cigarette case, having a rectangular shaped body with rounded edges, central vacant cartouche, with gold-gilt interior and thumb-piece with catch. Made by George Unite of Birmingham in 1860. The dimensions of this fine hand-made silver case are length 9 cms , width 5.5 cms , depth 1.8 cms, and the weight is approx. 72 g . The cartouche is free for engraving however there does seem to be some light dents in this area. The silversmiths marks are nice and clear to read with the duty stamp that ended in the 1890s. A nice collectors object dated to 1860 which is unusal to find as this was the period when cigar cases were mostly made as cigerettes were not yet popular.
