A great, large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a painting on shiny golden silk showcasing a ferocious tiger 虎 (tora) in a bamboo grove 竹 (take) near a waterfall. The tiger stands on a hill, roaring fiercely, in the distance.
Signed and sealed in the lower left corner ‘Suiseki’ 翠石, referencing the renowned tiger artist Ôhashi Suiseki 大橋翠石. However, this artwork is not his creation but rather a tribute painted by an unknown artist.
Colour and ink on shiny golden silk, protected by a black lacquered frame.
It is in a very good condition with minimal traces of wear conform age. With old repairs of back-papering. For a clear condition reference, please have a look at the photos.
Period: Japan – Early-/Mid-Shôwa period (Early-/Mid-20th century).
