A finely carved wooden figure of Kishimojin (鬼子母神) from the later part of the 19th century standing on a square base carved to represent waves crashing against rocks. Some details, like the colar, buttons and feet at the base are gilded.
About Kishimojin (鬼子母神)
Kishimojin, originally a fearsome mother deity in Japanese Buddhism, became venerated as a protector of children and safe childbirth. She embodies both nurturing and protective qualities, reflecting her transformation from a demoness who once harmed children to a guardian who safeguards them.

Condition: Overall in good condition with a nice warm patina. One foot and possibly the hands seem to be reattached. Some gaps in the wooden base due to drying and warping of the wood.
