悬挂在华丽支架上的合金佛铃 - 木, 合金, 漆, 真丝 - 日本 - Meiji period (1868-1912)
An outstanding cast alloy kei 磬 (Buddhist chime) suspended from an ornate keidai 磬台 (chime stand).
The kei is shaped in the traditional chevron form and decorated with an embossed chrysanthemum 菊 (kiku) strike panel, flanked by a pair of phoenixes 鳳凰 (hô’ô) in flight. Chimes of this type are struck during the recitation of sutras and produce a clear, resonant clang.
Such instruments derive from ancient Chinese ritual chimes (qing) and were adopted in Japan primarily for use in Buddhist temple ritual.
The chime is suspended from a richly decorated stand finished in gilt lacquer. The keidai is fitted with intricate openwork brackets carved in the form of swirling clouds, executed in polychrome pigments. At the centre appears a crest (mon) depicting wisteria 藤 (fuji). The upper beam is lobed and end in gently scrolling ends.
Accompanied by a bachi 撥 (striker)
Period: Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912).
The set is in a very good condition with traces of age, including gilding loss and some wear to the delicate cloud carvings. These signs are consistent with age and use and do not detract from the overall presence. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
