An impressive Japanese bronze okimono depicting an Oni lifting a Buddhist ceremonial koro with its left hand. The kneeling figure rests its other hand on the hip to maintain balance, displaying its full strength in the act of raising the incense burner. The robes are finely incised and still show traces of gilding, with a large phoenix on the back. The koro, decorated with two shishi heads on the sides, is enriched with floral engravings. Particularly remarkable is the quality of the patina and the plastic rendering of the details, from the folds of the garments to the long curly hair cascading down the back.
