Tomoshige descended from the first-generation Fujishima Tomoshige, a disciple of Rai Kunitoshi in the Kamakura period (around 1324). The family later moved from Echizen to Kaga, where the tradition continued for over five centuries until the end of the Edo period. The sayagaki on the shirasaya notes that the sword was made by Fujishima Tomoshige of Kaga province, with a blade length of 1 shaku 8 sun. The sword is housed in a shirasaya with a wooden habaki and comes with a cotton storage bag. It is accompanied by a Tokubetsu Kichō Tōken (Especially Precious Sword) certificate issued by the NBTHK (Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) in 1963, authenticating it as a genuine work by Fujishima Tomoshige. The sword also comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, as the original will be returned to the authorities. The certificate, issued in Osaka under number 123628, records the sword as a wakizashi with a blade length of 53 cm, curvature of 1.2 cm, one peg hole, and the inscription “Tomoshige” on the tang. It was issued on 14 May 2010. The blade displays a beautiful visible hamon, characteristic of the refined craftsmanship of the Fujishima tradition. Works by Tomoshige are highly regarded and rarely encountered on the market, making this an exceptional opportunity for collectors of Japanese swords. There are a few forging openings on the blade, and the shirasaya and habaki show minor blemishes such as small dents, scratches, and slight discolouration. Overall, the sword is in good used condition consistent with its age. The stand shown in the photos is not included. Please refer to the photos for details. Total length of the blade: approx.68 cm Total length including scabbard: approx. 81 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos. However, due to differences in monitors and device displays, as well as photographic conditions, slight color variations between the photos and the actual product may occur.
