The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 This sculptural vase is a fine example of Chōsen Karatsu, one of the most dynamic styles within Karatsu ware, a traditional ceramic produced in Saga Prefecture, Japan. Chōsen Karatsu is characterised by the use of two contrasting glazes. A dark iron glaze forms the base, over which a white straw-ash glaze is poured. The white glaze flows vigorously over the darker surface, creating a dramatic, waterfall-like effect reminiscent of melting snow or cascading water. This bold contrast is highly valued for its strong expression of wabi-sabi aesthetics. The vase has a powerful square column form with pronounced hammering marks from hand shaping, giving it a modern, almost sculptural presence. The surface texture and flowing glaze patterns make each side visually distinct. A potter’s seal is impressed on the base, confirming it as a signed work. The white glaze shows fine crackle patterns (crazing), which are a natural and appreciated characteristic of this type of glaze and add depth and warmth to the surface. There are no visible chips to the rim or corners. The vase shows minor signs of use consistent with age but remains in good used condition overall. Please refer to the photos for details.
