日本 - 江户时代的东京地图; Owariya Seishichi - "Honjo Ezu" (本所絵図) - 1851-1860

Item Description: This is an original hand-colored Edo Kiriezu (切絵図) titled "Honjo Ezu" (本所絵図), published in Ansei 2 (1855) by Owariya Seishichi (尾張屋清七). Edo Kiriezu were highly detailed block-printed maps of Edo (modern-day Tokyo), designed for practical use by townspeople, merchants, and travelers during the late Edo period. This particular map focuses on the Honjo district, located on the east bank of the Sumida River, an area known for its artisan workshops, temples, and proximity to the Ryōgoku Bridge. Printed on washi paper and delicately hand-colored, the map retains excellent detail and includes street names, rivers, and notable landmarks. Measuring approximately 75 cm × 54 cm when fully opened, and 16.5 cm × 9 cm when folded, it is bound in a traditional accordion-style format. Notably, this piece includes its original Edo-period storage slipcase, making it a particularly rare and collectible example. Despite minor wear consistent with age, the overall condition is very good. Edo period maps like this serve not only as geographical references but also as valuable cultural artifacts, offering deep insight into urban planning and daily life in pre-modern Japan. It is digitally archived at the National Diet Library. https://dl.ndl.go.jp/pid/1286679 A rare and authentic example of historical Japanese cartography with original packaging. Size: Unfolded: Approximately 75 cm × 54 cm Folded: Approximately 16.5 cm × 9 cm Artist Profile: Owariya Seishichi (尾張屋清七) was a prominent Edo period publisher specializing in woodblock-printed maps.
