Kishimoto Kenji was born in 1934 in Nagoya City and entered the ceramic world in 1960 when he moved to Mino, one of the historic centers of Japanese pottery production. Kishimoto held his first solo exhibition in 1974 at the prestigious Takashimaya department store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, marking his emergence as a recognized ceramic artist. In 1978, he was admitted as a full member of the Japan Traditional Kogei Association, affirming his mastery of traditional ceramic techniques. Throughout the 1980s, he continued to expand his presence through solo exhibitions at major venues including Hankyu Umeda Main Store in 1982 and Maruei department stores in both Nagoya and Toyohashi in 1986.
His work gained international recognition in 1988 when he was featured in a solo exhibition in the country known for its ceramic traditions, and his pieces were acquired by the distinguished collection. The following year in 1989, his work entered the permanent collection of a major university art museum, confirming his artistic significance. In 1992, Kishimoto participated in the touring exhibition "Japanese Ceramics Today: 100 Selections" organized by the national broadcasting corporation, which traveled through major cities including one of the world's art capitals and various locations throughout Japan.
