Gojû Sekitô 五重石塔(五层宝塔) - 花岗岩 - 日本 - 昭和后期(1970年代至1980年代)
A rare and extremely tall (258 cm!) 13-part granite garden pagoda, known as sekitô 石塔.
Pagodas, known as tô 塔 in Japanese, have their roots in ancient India and gradually spread across Asia, becoming an essential part of Japanese culture. These towering structures are linked to sacred mountains in folklore, and in the past, their highest levels were often used to store valuable artifacts and treasures.
Inspired by these architectural forms, stone pagodas, or sekitô 石塔, became a key feature in Japanese gardens, valued for both their symbolism and aesthetic appeal. Among them, the five-tiered pagoda, called Gojû Sekitô 五重石塔, represents the five fundamental elements: Earth as the foundation, followed by Water, Fire, Wind, and finally Void or Space at the top, embodying harmony between nature and the spiritual world.
