A fine matching pair of Japanese cloisonné dating to the late 19th – early 20th century (Meiji period).
The vases are crafted on a bronze body and decorated using the traditional cloisonné technique, with very fine wire work forming dense scrolling patterns on a deep black ground.
The decoration features butterflies and floral motifs, executed in rich polychrome enamels including turquoise, blue, yellow, pink, green and brown. Both vases display turquoise and blue decorative bands at the shoulder and foot, a turquoise/green enamelled interior, and exposed bronze rim and base.
The pair shows the subtle variations expected from handcrafted Meiji-era export cloisonné, while remaining visually well matched.
Unsigned, which is typical for Japanese cloisonné of this period.
Good to very good antique condition. Minor surface wear and natural patina consistent with age. No visible cracks, chips, or losses to the enamel. Please see all the photos.
Height 15.5 cm (each), Weight 364 gr (both)
