Attributed to Constant Permeke (1886–1952) – Figure in Landscape
Powerful expressionist oil painting attributed to Constant Permeke, one of the most important figures of Flemish Expressionism.
The composition depicts a solitary, bent figure in a rural landscape, rendered in a restrained palette of earthy browns, ochres and greens. The monumental treatment of the human figure and the close connection between man and land strongly relate to themes Permeke explored extensively during the interwar period (circa 1920–1935).
The painting shows an expressive, confident brushwork and a sober, timeless atmosphere typical of early 20th-century Flemish modernism.
Signed “Permeke” (see photos).
Due to the existence of stylistic followers and imitators within Permeke’s oeuvre, the work is offered as attributed to the artist and is not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This makes it an interesting opportunity for collectors and specialists.
