The larger gold ring features two stars, clearly indicating that it is an upgrade over the Custom 74, which has only one star. As the highest variation of the 74 series, there is the Custom 743, which has the largest nib, body, and gold ring with three stars. However, many people choose the 742 because the 743 is too large.
