Mesozoic fossil insect specimen preserved on a fine limestone slab, from the famous fossiliferous deposits of Haqel in Lebanon, known worldwide for the exceptional preservation of Lower Cretaceous organisms (about 125–100 million years ago).
The fossil clearly shows the central body and elongated appendages (legs and/or wings), with the typical two-dimensional preservation of Lebanese laminated limestones.
The Lebanese deposits are famous for yielding primitive insects (including Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera and Neuroptera) that provide direct evidence of insect evolution during the Mesozoic.
