This extraordinary glass vessel, dating from between the 4th century AD and attributed to the Roman Empire, is notable for its preservation with fabric wrappings, an unusual feature that suggests storage, transport, or even funerary rituals. Measuring 22 cm high and 8 cm wide, the piece belongs to the Roman tradition of producing blown glass, used to hold liquids such as perfumes, oils, or medicines. The design of the flask is particularly interesting: its base is globular and stable, while the neck is remarkably long and slender, suggesting a use for the controlled dispensing of the liquid inside. This type of flask was common in Late Antiquity, especially in domestic and funerary contexts, where similar examples have been found in Roman and Byzantine necropolises. The most striking feature of the piece is the adhered fabric wrapping, which is firmly fixed to the glass. This could indicate that the vessel was deliberately protected with cloth, either for preservation, to facilitate handling, or as part of a ritual. The presence of organic material is rare in archaeological finds, making this example an exceptional testament to the material practices of the period. Similar examples have been found at sites in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as in museum collections such as the British Museum and the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, where glass vessels wrapped in textiles or containing fragments of perishable materials reveal details about their use and function in daily Roman life.
