Cape York meteorite slice. One of the most famous meteorites in the world. is one of the largest known iron meteorites, classified as a medium octahedrite in chemical group IIIAB. The date of the meteorite fall is debated, but was probably within the last few thousand years. It was known to local Inuit for centuries, who used it as a source of meteoritic iron for tools. This specimen comes from the Agpalilik specimen which is displayed in the Natural History Museum of Denmark (second picture). Virtually all kilos of this meteorite are in museums around the world. Hence, a private purchase of this meteorite is almost imposible. This piece has one frontal flat side and a curved one as seen in the pictures.
