Pedro Domecq is inextricably linked to the history of Spanish spirits, being the producer who, in 1874, launched the first brandy labeled "Brandy de Jerez." The production process dates back to 1730, although the current name was officially adopted in 1816. Originally founded by Irishman Patrick Murphy and later managed by Juan Haurie, the company passed to his nephew Pedro Domecq Lembeye in 1794, who transformed it into a dominant multinational in the British Sherry market. The most famous contribution came from Pedro Domecq Loustau, who in 1874 created Fundador, the first Spanish brandy marketed under the name Brandy de Jerez. The birth of this spirit was accidental: an order for a Dutch merchant remained unsold and forgotten in oak barrels for years, developing unique aromas and colors that gave birth to the category.
