A robust cluster of differently sized scalenohedrons of golden calcite with lighter tips, a transparent to translucent interior, and excellent surface luster, set over a black, almost bituminous-looking matrix probably made up of some kind of iron hydroxide. The piece comes from a remote Kazakh mine that opened and closed pretty much with the creation and collapse of the Eastern Block and is now completely abandoned. Specimens like this are not common nowadays, and it's getting harder and harder to find more.
