Item Description (English)
This is an authentic Shino ware tea bowl (chawan), created by Japanese ceramic artist Hifu Issei (日府一生) of Yuto Kiln (有陶窯). The bowl exemplifies the distinctive characteristics of Shino ware, including a soft milky-white glaze, warm earthy tones, and natural iron speckling formed during firing. The calm cylindrical shape and subtle kiln effects give the piece a quiet elegance, suitable for tea ceremony use as well as refined display.
The base is impressed with the artist’s ceramic seal reading “Issei” (一生), confirming authenticity. It comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako). Please note that the wooden box shows stains, scratches, and signs of wear due to long-term storage, while the tea bowl itself remains in good condition.
