Artist Profile Kunio Watanabe (b. 1967) is a distinguished Japanese ceramic artist specializing in overglaze enamel porcelain (iro-e jiki). Born in Yamanashi Prefecture, he graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1994, receiving the Harada Prize, and completed his master's degree in ceramics at the same institution in 1996. After serving as a ceramics instructor at Seto Ceramic High School in Aichi Prefecture for ten years, he established his independent studio in Yamanakako Village, Yamanashi in 2006. Watanabe is a member of the Japan Kogei Association and the Japan Ceramic Art Association.
