Item Description
This exceptional Oribe kinuta-form flower vase is a masterpiece by Yamada Masakazu (1951-), created at his renowned Hakuzan Kiln. The kinuta form, inspired by traditional cloth-beating mallets, features a distinctive silhouette with broad shoulders tapering to an elegant cylindrical neck, a classical shape that has been cherished since the time of Sen no Rikyū.
The vessel showcases Yamada's masterful command of the Oribe glazing technique. The flowing green glaze creates a mesmerizing interplay of color and texture across the powerfully carved surface. Bold vertical facets sculpted into the body create dynamic shifts in light and shadow, while the characteristic Oribe copper-green glaze pools and flows naturally, revealing the artist's deep understanding of glaze properties and their expressive potential.
This piece exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Mino pottery techniques with contemporary sensibilities, creating what can only be described as a modern Japanese aesthetic statement. The work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, attesting to its artistic significance. Every angle reveals new scenic qualities, demonstrating the completeness and thoughtfulness of the artist's vision.
The vase is in excellent condition with no damage, preserving its pristine beauty as a testament to Yamada's craftsmanship at Hakuzan Kiln. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a distinguished work by one of contemporary Japan's most respected Oribe masters.
