Beautiful vintage Schatz Royal Mariner ship's clock. It is in a good working condition. The clock runs great and is keeping time. Inside is a 4-jewel Schatz movement, this indicates that this is an early clock, probably from the 1960's. Schatz made the Royal Mariner clocks from the 50's to the mid 80's. Around 1970 they switched from the 4 to the 7 jewel movement. The striking mechanism is also working, it strikes every half hour. And it does that in a 4-hour cycle. This has something to do with the 4-hour shift cycli on ships. The outside of the clock has obtained a nice patina in it's lifetime, there are no scratches or dents in the case. The bezel around the glass is made of gilded steel, this gilded layer has almost completely vanished which is not uncommon during 60 years of service. A new winding key is present. The diameter of the backplate is 18 cm., of the front bezel is 16 cm. and the height of the clock is 9.5 cm.
