This is a large, antique Japanese copper hanging lantern. It is quite large among Japanese hanging lanterns. Check out the lighter comparison. It features an elegant sculpture of a cicada perched on it. The cicada is life-size. The window is made of plastic. The material is presumed to be copper, as the frame is red when the door is open. The frame may be bronze to maintain strength. It was originally lit by candles, but appears to have been used as an electric lamp. It is unknown whether the electrical socket works.
