Simson Ryberg (1771-1807) - 1796, Gustavian - 过滤器 - .830 银 - 瑞典,斯德哥尔摩

A Fine Swedish Gustavian Silver Strainer Ladle Maker: Simson Ryberg (active 1771-1807), Stockholm, 1796 This exquisite late 18th-century strainer ladle features a deep, circular bowl with an intricate pierced sunburst pattern. The design consists of radiating elongated slits originating from a central circular aperture, encircled by rows of smaller perforations that allow for efficient straining while adding decorative appeal. The bowl's rim is subtly scalloped, enhancing its neoclassical elegance, and the sides exhibit additional pierced detailing for functionality and aesthetics. The handle is of baluster form, tapering gracefully to a hooked terminal designed to rest securely on the edge of a punch bowl, toddy vessel, or similar container, with a shaped thumbpiece for comfortable grip. Fully hallmarked on the reverse of the handle, including the maker's mark "SR" in a rectangular cartouche for Simson Ryberg, the Stockholm town mark of three crowns in a trefoil shape, the date letter "O2" indicating 1796, and the Swedish national control mark (cat's paw) confirming the silver standard of at least .830 fineness. Dimensions: Length 19 cm (7 1/2 inches); bowl width 6 cm (2 3/8 inches). Weight: 52.2 grams (1.68 troy ounces). Condition: Good antique condition overall, consistent with age and gentle use over two centuries. The piece displays minor surface scratches, light tarnish in recessed areas, and expected wear to the high points and perforation edges from handling. There are few splits, but no holes, dents, repairs, or restorations evident. The hallmarks remain crisp and fully legible, underscoring the item's authenticity and preservation. Simson Ryberg was a respected Stockholm silversmith during the Gustavian period, producing refined neoclassical silverware influenced by contemporary European trends. Such strainer ladles were commonly used for serving punch, toddy, or mulled beverages, straining out spices, fruit, or sediment. This example represents a superb addition to a collection of Scandinavian silver or period tableware, with strong collector interest due to its maker, provenance, and intact condition.
