日本佛像 - 木 - 1850-1900 - 加藤清正

加藤清正 Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611) Wooden Buddhism Statue Sculpture in Zushi / Gilt lacquered Miniature Shrine with Double Doors 加藤清正 Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611) A samurai in the service of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. A master of the spear. Lord of Kumamoto Castle. Kato Kiyomasa was an extremely tall man (190 cm) and stood out prominently when wearing his trademark long Eboshi-Hat Shaped Kabuto Helmet. He was also known as a master castle builder and participated in the construction of Nagoya Castle at the request of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Zushi "Buddhist altar", sometimes spelled Butsudan, is a small type of shrine or temple commonly found in temples and homes in Japanese Buddhist cultures. This wooden figure of Kato Kiyomasa (1562–1611) is presented within a gilt‑lacquered zushi, its double doors opening to reveal the daimyo seated in formal attire with a composed, authoritative presence. The carving emphasizes the dignified posture, layered robes, and distinctive headgear associated with Kiyomasa, a renowned samurai in the service of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the formidable lord of Kumamoto Castle. Known for his mastery of the spear and his exceptional height, Kiyomasa also played a major role in castle construction, contributing to projects such as Nagoya Castle under Tokugawa Ieyasu. Within the shrine, the gold interior enhances the solemnity of the figure, giving it the quiet reverence of an object intended for personal devotion or ancestral remembrance. As zushi were traditionally kept in temples and homes as compact altars, this piece combines historical significance with the intimate scale of a portable shrine, offering both cultural depth and refined craftsmanship. Dimension of Altar: 5.1" x 3.7" x 13.1" / 13cm x 9.5cm x 33.5cm Dimensions Statue: 3.7" x 2.1" x 4.3" / 9.5cm x 5.5cm x 11cm Material: Wood Weight: 750g Condition Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
